If you’re like most people, you probably don’t want to smell like a car when you’re not driving it. But if you’ve got a garage, there’s no reason not to vent your car exhaust there. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open the garage door and turn on the light.
  2. Park your car in the center of the garage and turn off the engine.
  3. Open your car’s exhaust system by removing the muffler or catalytic converter (depending on your model). If you don’t have either of these, remove the tailpipe from the end of your exhaust pipe.
  4. Place a bucket or can beneath each end of your exhaust pipe and hold it in place with a wrench or pliers while you unscrew the metal flanges from each end of your pipe using a wrench or socket (depending on your model). Be careful not to let any metal pieces fall into the bucket!
  5. Remove both ends of your pipe and set them aside in a safe place. You’ll need them later when you reattach them to your car’s exhaust system. ..
