If you’re like most people, you probably use Illustrator to create logos, icons, and other graphics. And if you’re like most people, you probably want to be able to split shapes into separate pieces without having to use the Pathfinder tool. There are a few ways to do this. The easiest way is to use the Rectangle Tool (M) and draw a rectangle that’s the same size as the shape you want to split. Then select both sides of the rectangle and press Ctrl+J (Windows) or Command+J (Mac). This will create a new layer called “Split Shape.” You can also use the Split Shape Tool (Shift+Ctrl+J/Command+J on Mac) by clicking on it in the toolbar. To do this, first make sure that the Selection Tools are active (they look like small squares with a cross in them). Then click on one of the shapes that you want to split and hold down Shift while clicking on another shape. This will create a new layer called “Split Shape.” ..
