In Illustrator, objects can be separated into two types: layers and shapes. Layers are created by selecting one object and then pressing the command key (or the left mouse button) to create a new layer. Shapes are created by selecting one object and then pressing the command key (or the right mouse button) to create a new shape. To separate objects into layers or shapes, follow these steps:

  1. Choose an object to separator into layers or shapes.
  2. Press the command key (or the left mouse button) to create a new layer or shape.
  3. Select another object and press the command key (or the right mouse button) to select another layer or shape.
