Illustrator is a great tool for creating outlines and diagrams. Here are some tips on how to outline in Illustrator:
- Start by creating a new document. You can use any size, but make sure the width is at least twice the height so you have enough room to work.
- Select the Pen tool and draw a line down the center of your page. This will be your baseline.
- Select the Rectangle tool and draw a rectangle on top of your baseline. The rectangle should be about twice as wide as it is tall, and its bottom should be at the bottom of your baseline (or slightly above it). Make sure that the corners are aligned with your baseline’s corners.
- Select the Ellipse tool and draw an ellipse inside of your rectangle, making sure that its top matches up with the top of your rectangle’s ellipse (or slightly below it). The ellipse should be about half as wide as it is tall, and its bottom should be at or slightly above the bottom of your rectangle’s ellipse (or slightly below it). Again, make sure that the corners are aligned with your baseline’s corners.
- Select both objects and press Command+J (PC: Ctrl+J) to merge them into one object. Your outline should now look like this: ..
