There are a few ways to make a layer mask in Photoshop. The most common way is to click on the layer mask thumbnail, then drag it to the bottom of the Layers palette. Another way is to press Command-L (Mac) or Option-L (PC) and drag the layer mask thumbnail to the bottom of the Layers palette.
