If you notice that your car door is not closing properly, there is a good chance that the hinge has become bent. This can be fixed relatively easily by following these steps:
- Remove the door panel. On most cars, this can be done by removing two screws at the base of the door and pulling it off. Be sure to save any plastic or metal pieces that may have come off with the panel; you’ll need them later.
- Look for the hinge pin inside the door frame. This will likely be a small, round piece of metal with a hole in it. Use a screwdriver to pry out the pin, and then use pliers to bend it back into its original shape (see photo). If necessary, use a hammer to tap it back into place until it’s tight enough not to move (see photo).
- Replace the door panel and screws, and reattach any plastic or metal pieces you saved from before (see photo). Be sure to test your car’s hinges by closing and opening them several times; if they’re still bent, repeat steps 1-3 until they’re fixed correctly. ..
