In this Illustrator tutorial, we will show you how to create pie charts in the software using basic shapes and paths. You will need a few Illustrator objects to complete this tutorial: a circle, a rectangle, and an ellipse.
- Start by creating a new document in Illustrator and filling it with a light blue color.
- Select the circle tool (C) and draw a small circle on top of the blue background. Make sure that the circle is selected before you start drawing its path.
- Next, select the rectangle tool (M) and draw a rectangle next to the circle. Make sure that both objects are selected before you start drawing their paths.
- Finally, select the ellipse tool (L) and draw an ellipse next to the rectangle and circle. Make sure that both objects are selected before you start drawing their paths.
- Now let’s add some basic shapes to our pie chart using paths: first, create a path for the pie’s top edge using the line tool (L). Then use the roundrectangle tool (R) to create its bottom edge, as shown in Figure 1 below: 6 . Next, use the arcuatepath tool (A) to create two curved lines connecting each end of your top edge path with your bottom edge path: one near each corner of your pie chart as shown in Figure 2 below: ..
