When I was a child, my parents would often tell me that I had a “silly mouth.” They would say that if I ever told a lie, it would be the end of the world. And they were right. A lie can ruin your life. It can make you feel like you’re in danger, or like you’re not good enough. It can make you feel like you’re not loved. And it can make you feel like you’re in control of the world. But there is a way to come clean about a lie, even if it feels hard. There are ways to tell the truth without hurting yourself or others, and there are ways to apologize for what we have done wrong even if it feels difficult. There are also ways to learn from our mistakes and to move on from them. If we take the time to do these things, we may find that our lives are better off for it.
