Deer hunting season is quickly approaching, and with it comes the inevitable question of how to clean the venison. There are a few different methods, but most involve some type of water and a bit of elbow grease. Here are four tips for cleaning deer:
- Start by removing any visible blood or guts. Use a knife or your hands to peel them away until you’re left with clean skin and meat.
- Fill a large pot with cold water and add some soap. Bring the water to a boil, then lower it to a simmer and add your deer carcass. Let it cook for about an hour, or until the meat is soft enough to easily remove from the bones.
- Remove the meat from the bones by hand or using a kitchen strainer. Discard any excess fat or bones before cooking the meat further or serving it up fresh.
- Once all of the meat has been removed, strain the broth into another pot and discard any remaining solids before serving hot over rice or potatoes. ..
