If you’re like most drivers, you probably don’t think much about your car’s thermostat. But if your car’s temperature is consistently high or low, it might be time to check the thermostat. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Park your car in a cool place, such as outside on a cold day.
  2. Turn off all the lights in the car and open all the windows.
  3. Turn on the car’s interior light and locate the thermostat on the dashboard. It will likely be near the air conditioning or heating vents.
  4. Turn off the thermostat by rotating it to “Off” position and then close all of the windows and doors to trap heat inside the car. Open one window slightly so that air can circulate inside and then wait 10 minutes before checking again to ensure that there has been no change in temperature (the thermometer should read about 20 degrees Celsius). If there has been a change, repeat steps 3-5 until you have reached equilibrium again (the thermometer should read about 20 degrees Celsius). ..
